Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive technique for stress reduction and relaxation which may help the body to heal itself. It is primarily a practice for self-development and self-healing, but practitioners are able to help others by stimulating the others ability for self-healing.
Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century with the work of Mikao Usui. He taught his technique to others and it found its way to the USA before the Second World War. The majority of practitioners in the West use the methods that spread from the US during the 1970s. During the late 1990s many Western Reiki practitioners began to research the origins of Reiki in Japan and this has led to the incorporation of more traditional Japanese techniques into their repertoire. We have studied both Western (Usui Shiki Ryoho) and Japanese (Usui Reiki Ryoho) methods, but we teach traditional Japanese techniques.
